About
My name is Scott Stimson and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
My interest in photography began as a child. I loved sitting in my grandfather's darkened living room watching slide shows of the images he captured while on road trips. I obtained my first camera when I was five, a free Diana toy camera from a Shakey's Pizzeria in California. That camera never knew film, but the Diana toy camera was destined to become one of my favorite cameras.
I was drawn to explore photography as a teen and I learned "traditional" photography techniques and printed my images in the darkroom. Today, I shoot mainly film, scan my negatives and then work in the digital-darkroom, printing my images using archival inks and papers.
My favorite processes include film based pinhole, toy, and homemade cameras. These types of cameras have few controls and they appeal to me because of their limitations and unpredictable nature.
I enjoy observing my surroundings and when I see something that moves me... I photograph it. Mostly, I capture images of simple things, such as the natural symmetry in both nature and the things we humans make.
